How a bespoke ring
becomes a ring.

A simple, calm, four-step process. The first conversation is always complimentary — in person, by phone, or video, whichever you prefer.

i.

The conversation

Forty-five minutes, on a Wednesday or by video. We sketch ideas, look at stones, talk about budget honestly, and never push the conversation toward a sale.

Week 0
ii.

Design & CAD

Two design proposals, hand-sketched. Once you choose a direction, we render in CAD and 3D-print a wax model for you to hold & size.

Week 1–2
iii.

The bench

The master goldsmith takes the approved CAD to the bench. Casting, setting, polishing, and an in-house GIA inspection of every stone.

Week 3–5
iv.

Delivery

Hand-delivered in a leather presentation box with a full GIA certificate, lifetime appraisal, and a private number for service & insurance.

Marcus Aurelius (no relation; family name) opened the atelier in 1985 after twelve years at a Geneva house. He still sets every stone above one carat himself. Three apprentices assist with casting & polishing; one of them is his daughter, Olivia, who took over design direction in 2022.

Engraving & finishing

Hand-engraving on rings & pendants, hammered & brushed finishes, vermeil work, custom enamel colour. Done at the bench, not contracted out.

Aurelius opened in 1985 in a single second-floor room on Maiden Lane, with one show-case, one bench, and the family’s gemstone collection brought over from a small house in Florence. Tom Sr. is still here on Saturdays. Olivia (his granddaughter) leads design.

We’ve never sold through a chain, never licensed our name, and we’ve declined every offer to franchise. The point of the shop is that the person at the bench is the person you spoke with at the front desk, and the person who answers the phone at midnight when your engagement is twenty hours away.
