A 1904 Edwardian, returned to the bones. Plaster walls hand-finished in a warm Roman clay. Vintage Knoll and Cassina alongside a custom-bench sectional and a single Calder mobile above the dining table.
A single-volume kitchen with a 13-foot marble island. White-oak millwork bookmatched across all twenty-three cabinet faces. Sub-Zero and Wolf concealed behind hand-pulled brass.
Twenty-eight rooms, each finished as a private bedroom rather than a hotel. Hand-blocked wallpaper, marble bathrooms, custom millwork and walnut headboards. Now in its third printing.
Whether we’re seeing a project through from raw plaster to the day the linens are pressed, or simply restyling a single room, the work is led by one of three partners and a small team of two designers.
Concept through installation. Architecture coordination, custom millwork, full FF&E specification, sourcing, procurement, install & styling. Six to fourteen months. We take on six of these a year.
Two to four rooms, working with what’s there plus considered additions. Custom upholstery, lighting, art consultation, styling. Eight to twelve weeks. The right entry point for an existing home that’s almost-there.
Booked by the hour for paint-color decisions, vintage shopping companionship, single-room plans you’ll execute yourself. Three hour minimum, often a half-day. We do this on Fridays only.
No two engagements move the same way, but every one of them sits inside this five-plate frame.
Two-hour studio visit. We listen, we sketch, we leave with a tin of polaroids of your existing home and a stack of questions.
Mood boards, floor plans, a single hand-bound concept book. One revision, one direction chosen.
Every drawer pull, every paint chip, every fabric yardage. Specified, costed, signed.
Vintage scouts, foundry orders, custom millwork. We keep a single shared procurement sheet, updated weekly.
Two weeks on-site. Furniture lands, art hangs, the linens are pressed. We leave you with a single Polaroid in a brass frame.
Studio Noir was founded by Anaïs Vincente and Hugo Park, both alumni of Roman & Williams. We have always been small on purpose. Twelve to eighteen homes a year. Two partners, two senior designers, one studio manager, one Pomeranian named Ledger.
We are ASID-certified and NCIDQ-licensed. We carry full professional liability. We work in California, Oregon, and (occasionally) Mexico City. We bill in hours and inches.
Anaïs walked our 1904 Edwardian and named what was good in it before we’d unpacked. Two years later, every room she touched is the room we open the door to first.
Studio Noir treated our boutique like a private apartment. The lobby alone reads like a paperback first edition. Every check-in feels like a thank you note.
Tucked above the old French bakery on Maiden Lane, between Stockton and Grant. Ring the brass bell, the door is open. We are taking new commissions for autumn 2026 onwards.
This monograph is set in Italiana and Cardo, with auxiliary use of Instrument Sans. The paper is a 90gsm warm linen, the rules are 0.5pt and hairline. Photographs by Sara Renaud, except where credited. Edited and laid out at the studio.
